Michelangelo’s focus as a visual artist was almost exclusively the human body. In it, he found endless possibilities to express the thoughts, emotions, and tensions that define us as human beings. He always strived for the greatest and often the impossible, but his art also revolves around imperfection—about being in progress, feeling anxious, and hesitating.

The exhibition Michelangelo Imperfect presents SMK’s outstanding collection of historical casts of Michelangelo’s sculptures alongside brand-new reproductions, original drawings, and sculptural models. This way, you can experience the majority of all Michelangelo’s sculptures in one place—something that would be impossible with the originals, which are never moved. Altogether, this is the most comprehensive presentation of Michelangelo’s sculptural work in 150 years and the largest exhibition of his work ever held in Denmark.
